Application
World-wide a number of activities are concerned with the optimization and development of cell materials and microstructures with the aim of reducing the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) operating temperatures. Reducing operating temperatures not only increases the life time of SOFC but also reduces cost of the total system.
General description
LSGM is an electrolyte material for intermediate temperature (below 800oC ) solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFC). LaGaO3 based pervoskite; doped with strontium and magnesium (LSGM) is known to exhibit high oxide ionic conductivity, on account of the high concentration and mobility of oxygen vacancies LSGM-8282 can be synthesized by solid state reaction between La2O3, MgO, SrCo3 and Ga2O at temperatures > 1000oC. Other known methods of producing LSGM are combustion synthesis, coprecipitation route, Pechini method for powder. Pechini method is popularly used in producing LSGM for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs).
