At SLS, we never miss the chance to celebrate the unsung heroes of the lab — the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep science moving forward. That’s why we’re thrilled to once again sponsor the Lab Technician of the Year Award, shining a spotlight on the incredible individuals who make research possible.
This year, the award went to Natallia Makava, a highly accomplished Research Technician at the University of Leeds. With over 20 years of experience, Natallia has dedicated her career to supporting scientific excellence. A graduate of the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology, her dedication and knowledge shine through in every project she undertakes.
The award was presented during Lab Innovations 2025, at the NEC Birmingham. Our Marketing Director, Joshua Chapman, had the honour of handing Natallia the recognition she truly deserves. And the celebration didn’t stop there — just a week later, our Territory Sales Manager, John Newman, visited the University of Leeds to personally congratulate her and present a special gift hamper in recognition of her achievement.
Natallia’s story is a reminder of the incredible people working behind the lab bench, whose expertise and dedication drive scientific progress every single day. Congratulations to Natallia - and to all the lab technicians making breakthroughs happen!
