Biochem/physiol Actions
Neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) has been shown to play an important role in vascular and neural functions. Neuropilin 1 (Nrp1) acts as a coreceptor for VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and increases the binding of VEGF165 to VEGFR2- and VEGF165-mediated chemotaxis. In transgenic mice, Nrp1 is implicated in embryonic vascular development. Elevated expression of the gene leads to the formation of excess capillaries and haemorrhaging.
General description
During development, neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) is expressed in arteries. It is also a co-receptor of semaphorin-3a.
