Biochem/physiol Actions

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2-α kinase 1 (EIF2AK1) plays a crucial role in the maintenance of basal endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. It also mediates protein synthesis and proteasome inhibition, as well as responds to the heme deficiency levels. Missense mutations in the EIF2AK1 and EIF2AK2 gene are implicated in the autosomal-dominant neurodevelopmental syndrome.
