Biochem/physiol Actions

The protein kelch like family member 8 (KLHL8) interacts with Rapsyn (Receptor-Associated Protein at the SYNapse) and CUL3 (Cullin-3). It forms a complex with E3 ligase and ubiquitinates Rapsyn. Rapsyn functions in the clustering of acetylcholine receptor (AChR). Knock-down of KLHL8 depletes rapsyn ubiquitination and in turn affects AchR clustering.

General description

The gene KLHL8 encodes a protein kelch like family member 8, which is a human homolog of KEL-8. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 4q22.1. The encoded protein contains a BTB (born to bind) domain that interacts with CUL3 (Cullin-3) and a Kelch domain that binds to rapsyn.
