Biochem/physiol Actions
FRK (fyn-related kinase) controls growth by phosphorylating perinuclear proteins. It inhibits cell growth both in a pRb (retinoblastoma)-dependent and independent manner. It cause cell cycle arrest at G1 phase in breast cancer cells. Certain mutations in this gene lead to its constitutive activation, as seen in hepatocellular adenomas. Its up-regulation in gliomas prevents both invasiveness and migration of glioma cells. This is attributable to its promotion of N-cadherin/β-catenin complex formation.
General description
FRK (fyn-related kinase) is a tyrosine kinase, with a molecular weight of 54kDa. It contains SH2 and SH3 (src homology) domains. It is predominantly expressed in tissues of epithelial origin such as, liver, kidney, breast and colon. Its SH2 domain contains a putative bipartite nuclear localization signal.
