General description
Sulfur dioxide is an important air pollutant. Sulfur dioxide in atmosphere can be removed by scrubbing through 0.1M sodium disulfitomercurate (II). Sulfur dioxide is added during wine production to prevent the undesirable microbial growth and oxidation processes. Rate of oxidation of aqueous sulfur dioxide species to sulfate and bisulfate by aqueous hydrogen peroxide over the pH range 0-3 has been evaluated. A novel electrochemical sensor for the detection of sulfur dioxide in both gas and solution has been described.
