Biochem/physiol Actions

Hoxa3 controls epithelial cell death and proliferation during thymus and parathyroid organogenesis. Mutations in Hoxa3 gene affects the development of thymus and parathyroid organ. It participates in adult thymus function. In endothelial and epithelial cells, it promotes cell migration stimulating angiogenesis and wound repair. It may be considered as a potent therapeutic agent for accelerating wound closure in diabetic patients.

General description

Hoxa3 belongs to the Hox family of transcription factors. In thymus, it is expressed in the third pharyngeal pouch endoderm. It is located on chromosome 7p15.2.
