SLS Helps TV Production

On Sunday 31 March a new drama started on BBC1 called The Village. Filmed in the Peak District it charts the lives and loves of Britons over the past 100 years.

What has this got to do with SLS? Well on 13 November, SLS received a call from Duncan Wheeler who was part of the production crew filming The Village. He was looking for a particular product to use in the show and had been doing some research on the internet, when he came across our website and voila he saw what needed – rubber tubing! An unusual request by all accounts but apparently there will be a scene in an upcoming episode, where one of the characters will be force fed and it will the tube SLS supplied being used.

So keep your eyes open for some red rubber tubing!

SLS Host Corporate Day at the KC Stadium

As back of shirt sponsor for Hull City AFC, SLS hosted a corporate day at the KC Stadium on 16 March 2013 for one of their key Nottingham customers Future Health. The match they saw … Hull v Nottingham Forest of course!

In addition to Future Health there were also three generations of the same family enjoying the game - ex SLS Sales Director Lloyd Whaley, SLS Sales Manager Tim Whaley and Tim’s son Oliver who celebrated his 13th Birthday. Making the event a family affair.

Everyone one had a great time except for the Hull City supporters in the group as the final result was Hull City 1 Nottingham Forest 2.

LED Advertising for Hull City AFC

Hull City Football Club has welcomed the fantastic addition of LED pitchside advertising, which now sees them as one of only a few Championship Clubs who offer this.

As back of shirt sponsor, SLS saw this as a fantastic opportunity to not only market their brand to people within the stadium but also to a worldwide audience through live TV coverage on Sky Sports and on highlights programmes such as Goals on Sunday and The Football League Show which pulls in an amazing 1.5million viewers.

SLS Goes Red

On Friday 15 March, staff in the Nottingham office supported comic Relief 2013 by coming into work wearing red clothes and organising a 'red food' buffet.

In return they donated some of their hard earned money and raised £60.

Another Successful Arablab for SLS

Once again SLS exhibited at Arablab in Dubai (10-13 March 2013), where they met with both existing and new distributors, as well as a wide variety of end user customers in the region.

This successful exhibition forms an important part of SLS' international sales and marketing strategy and we will be returning next year.

The Queen opens National Research Centre for Bowel Disease

Her Majesty The Queen officially opened the £3m National Centre for Bowel Research and Surgical Innovation (NCBRSI) at Queen Mary, University of London on Wednesday 27 February 2013.

The NCBRSI was set up to help bring bowel disease – a neglected area of medicine – to the forefront of scientific and surgical innovation.

Scientific Laboratory Supplies were involved in providing the new laboratory with SLS branded lab coats and the necessary products to help aid their new research process.

ASE Annual Conference 2013

SLS Select education attended the ASE conference from 2nd-5th January at the University Of Reading. The exhibition was a great success, allowing SLS Se to demonstrate and exhibit a wide range of exciting curriculum linked resources along with our high quality laboratory equipment.

SLS have supplied quality equipment to many customers over the years, which is now being brought to secondary education at affordable prices.

We would like to thank all those who came to see us on our stand, the exhibition was well attended and we enjoyed a busy time throughout.

We look forward to exhibiting again in Birmingham next year!

SLS Give it Up!

This November, one of Nottingham’s local radio station’s Gem 106, wanted to make a real difference to children in the East Midlands suffering from Cancer. They had a goal of raising £25,000 to help transform the Children’s Cancer Unit at the QMC Hospital in Nottingham.

To raise money for this appeal they launched the “Give it Up” Appeal, where people give something up for just one day and instead donate that money.

SLS have supported this appeal and held a “Give it Up” day where various members of staff gave things up, for example bottles of wines, takeaways and even flirting with their colleagues! The day proved very successful and we raised over £300. Thanks to everyone who contibuted.

International Regional Sales Manager Charlie Fullerton was pleased to meet Mr. Sun Wei, the Commercial Officer at the UK Trade & Investment, based in Beijing, China. The meeting was organised by the International Agri-Technology Centre (IATC), and was held at their offices at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. The one-to-one meeting covered developing business opportunities in China, how to conduct business and marketing for the region, potential exhibitions & events to attend, and the services available to SLS from the UKTI and the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC). The meeting was informative and useful, and will allow SLS to continue to grow in this important market.

SLS Becomes Distributor for Sigma

Scientific Laboratory Services (SLS), supplier of laboratory equipment and consumables, has signed a regional distributor partnership agreement with Sigma-Aldrich, a leading manufacturer and supplier of laboratory chemicals and reagents, to sell Sigma's products in the east and the south east of England.

"The research laboratory market in the UK is in many sectors with thousands of laboratories, and the partnership with SLS is an effective way for Sigma to extend its distribution network," said Sam Cain, marketing manager of Sigma-Aldrich. "We chose our distributor partner very carefully, based on its knowledge and understanding of the market and its customer base. SLS has both the office support and the field representation to communicate with customers face-to-face and talk about Sigma-Aldrich products, bringing us closer to the customers."

Sigma and SLS will launch a new catalogue, available through the SLS website on request, containing the most commonly used laboratory reagents and chemicals from Sigma-Aldrich. The distributor agreement allows scientists to place orders with SLS online, and products are shipped directly from Sigma under its usual next-day service.
